GOMEZGANI- The Rapper, The Minister !

Malawi is known as a God fearing Nation and not only is Christianity the dominant religion, but the religion has impacted a number of industries. One industry in particular is Music, with Malawi producing a growing number of gospel singers over the years. What have been of interest especially in the gospel circles is the evolving of the genres on which the gospel message is carried by these singers. There was once a time when gospel music would only be associated with the choirs singing, but through the years we have seen artists manipulating the instruments to come up with different sounds and beats. One genre that is warmly welcomed by the young generation nowadays is Gospel Hip hop. Rap music has been around for sometime and although originally associated with gangster lyrics, young Christians have understood the connection that the music has with young people and have resorted into using hip hop to carry the positive message about God. One such artist is GOMEZGANI an upcoming Gospel Rapper whose focus is to reach out to as many youths as possible with the word of God through his music

Gomezgani, was born and raised in Lilongwe Malawi, Africa and grew up in a family of 5 children.  A Ngoni by tribe, his love for music started at a very young age but it was in 2002 when he embraced the hip hop music.  He had his first major stage appearance in 2004 when he shared the stage alongside Noel Chikoleka (Phyzix) of the “Cholapitsa”  fame at Marist Secondary during a talent show.

In 2007, Gomezgani’s  life changed when he accepted Jesus Christ as His lord and saviour and became born again. His spirituality was now being reflected in his music and his focus changed as his main mission now was to minister the good news about Jesus through his music.  He got in the studios and brought out some recordings with his first appearance being on the “1 Lord Mixtape Vol. 1” by Dj Kali released in Feb 2010. Since then he released “Everything Changes [ep]” the next year in August-launching it with BBM Clique. He’s also featured in the “1 Lord Mixtape Vol. 2” out May 5, 2012.

On June 6 his single called “Ole Ole” was released and as of last week  it was on number one  on Malawi-music top 20 chart( Currently he lives in Kampala, Uganda studying Theology & Mass Communication at African Bible University. He’s a member of Kairos Christian Centre in Malawi & Watoto Church, South in Kampala, Uganda.                                                                                                            Surely GOMEZGANI is one artist to watch out and his sounds keep getting better and better. Next gig is up on 29th June, ICA MARQUEE in Lilongwe, Malawi at the Launch of Dj Kali’s MIXTAPE Launch.

GOMEZGANI ministering live with his Gospel Rap music

He is regarded as one of the greatest rappers to grace the rap industry and considered by many as gone too soon. Yes Tupac Shakur death  shocked the whole world when he was gunned down in Las Vegas. With 15 years gone since his death, his music still lives on and his birthday on what would have been his 41st  has been celebrated.

His birthday was  remembered  on June 16, with a celebration in the San Francisco Bay Area, where Tupac once lived in a low-income housing project dubbed “The Jungle” with his mother, former Black Panther Afeni Shakur. As a teenager, Tupac and his mother moved there, to Marin City, in 1988 when he was 17. It’s where Shakur formed the rap group Strictly Dope.
